The Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association announced its All-ACC teams Monday and named Wolfpack big man Tracy Smith to the second team, rewarding the junior for finishing the season as one of the ACC’s best in terms of scoring, rebounding and shooting. No Wolfpack player since Julius Hodge has received such an honor and it is great to see Smith recognized, but Smith’s place on the second instead of first team is a slight to the season he’s had.

Baseball team scores at least 14 runs in each day of three-game series
The State baseball team ended a three game series against Quinnipiac today with a 17-7 victory. The Wolfpack offense was explosive early and explosive late, scoring seven runs in the first three innings and scoring five in the eighth alone.

11th seeded Wolfpack looking to continue recent success at conference tournament
Only one team at this weekend’s ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament will be seeded lower than the 11th-seeded Wolfpack, Miami, who heads to Greensboro after finishing the regular season with a record of 17-14 overall and 5-11 in conference play. But after wins in three of its last four games, coach Sidney Lowe and his players comments after Sunday’s season-ending win over Boston College reflected anything but apprehension.

Sophomore guard playing his best basketball of season, coming off of the bench
Coming into the season, Pack fans had high hopes for sophomore guard C.J. Williams. After all, he had just wrapped up his freshman season where he turned it on in the final ten games, averaging almost six points per game while shooting over 50 percent from the field, including 45.8 percent from the three-point line.

Life as a collegiate pitcher can certainly have its ups and downs. Just ask N.C. State sophomore Cory Mazzoni. After a rocky start to his freshman season, Mazzoni's began his sophomore season playing a vital role in helping the Wolfpack (10-1) to its best start to the season since 2006, when it started 13-1.

State plays host to fencing tournament, sends two to Nationals
This weekend, Carmichael Gymnasium played host to the North Carolina Division of the United States Fencing Association for a tournament that spanned several days. The competitors battled to qualify to compete in the National Fencing Tournament this summer in Atlanta, Ga. Placing in the tournament marks the winners as the best fencers in the state.

Team wins first three rounds but falls 70-60 to well-rested Duke in finale
The Wolfpack Women’s tremendous performance in the 2010 ACC Tournament came to a close on Sunday in Greensboro in a 70-60 loss to top-seeded Duke. The Blue Devils were in the title game for the third consecutive year and was determined to fight hard and not falter again after two losses.
